I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in the spring of 2005. It was the beginning of my surrendering. The sad thing is that I always knew in my heart what the truth was. The details of my past aren’t important in this moment, but I will say that I never felt like I was good enough to be a Christian. I had this feeling that I couldn’t change my whole life, and a part of me didn’t want to change. I was right and I was wrong.
I was right in the fact that I couldn’t change my whole life. I was wrong in the fact that I didn’t think or know that God would be doing the changing in me. Now I understand that God meets you where you are. He wants you just the way you are. You don’t fix yourself and then come to God. You come to God, and let Him fix you!
After I was saved, I thought I knew everything. Did you ever realize that when you think you know everything about something, you suddenly realize you know nothing? Well, in my opinion, God calls that “opportunity”.
This spring, almost two years after I was saved, I learned about the Holy Spirit. To those who don’t know about the Holy Spirit (hey, I didn’t), I will first say that it is what jump started my walk with God, and it is what revived me, and continues to revive me as a Christian.
The Holy Trinity consists of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. What does this really mean though? If this is new to you, pay attention. If this is old news to you, I’m sorry. Actually, God is never old news, so repent of your wicked thoughts, and pay attention!
The Father is God. God is God. He just is. If you find yourself not understanding this, it’s okay. Our human brains aren’t capable of understanding how God works, so quit trying.
The Son, is our precious Jesus Christ. Who exactly is this wonderful man? He is God in human form. So, the next time you start complaining about your worries, and your suffering, just remember that God suffered with you, and for you. He DOES know what you are going through, because he already went through it, and it was a million times worse than anything going on in your life right now. For this alone, you should thank him and praise him!
When God created the earth, he intended the human race to be in fellowship with him. Unfortunately, Adam and Eve were deceived and broke this perfect fellowship (it’s alright, you can be upset about this).
Sin (estrangement from God) was born, and the rest is history. Well, God didn’t like that too much. After all, it wasn’t His plan. He gave everyone free will, and they made their choice. It was the wrong choice, but God always takes the wrong, and makes it right. However, this wasn’t just a little mistake Adam and Eve made. The only one who could take away this sin was God. He did that by creating his perfect Son, Jesus Christ. Still don’t understand why he had to die? Don’t you think it would have been easier for God to just snap His fingers and make everything okay? You need to first understand that God doesn’t change. He is the same since the beginning, and will be the same for all eternity. In the Old Testament, God had created very specific laws for his followers to obey. When God creates a law, it is perfect because He is perfect.
So, when God tells his people that they have to sacrifice a perfect lamb for a sin to be forgiven, that is the way it must happen. Now listen, because I’m about to make a point…
God is the ONLY one who can take away the sins of the entire world. Could he have snapped his fingers? Well, considering that would have broken His law, which He made, and He is perfect, that should give you your answer. Thus, Jesus Christ was born and sacrificed himself to pay for the sins of the world. He bridged the separation from God. Fellowship can now be restored!
Finally, the inspiration for this entry, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has been with me during this whole post. In other words, it is a helper or what Jesus calls the Comforter (John 14:16). When you let Jesus into your heart you also receive the Holy Spirit. It’s God’s promise that he will always be with us. Remember when I said that your brain can’t comprehend how God works? With the help of the Holy Spirit, your spirit can understand God’s ways. With the Holy Spirit, you receive “spiritual gifts” to fullfill God’s will. Turn to 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 to read more about these wonderful gifts from God.
Isn’t the Father amazing? Everytime I think about what God has done in my life, I’m overcome with joy. If you don’t believe in God, or if you haven’t let Jesus into your heart, stick around for my story. I pray and have faith that when you hear it, your eyes will be opened, and the Glory of God will move in your life the way he has moved in mine!
Amen.
