Obedience to the Lord
Justin on the Topic of Christian Living

One of the most valuable revelations that God has given me is the call for obedience. I use to go through most of my life doing whatever I wanted to do. I usually expected everything to go my way, and I was sometimes upset when it didn’t. It was a very selfish behavior. I realize that most people might not take it to the level that I once did, but I do know that we are all guilty of atleast one thing: Disobedience to God.

Pastor Alex, from Church in the Son, had an excellent teaching today, and one of the things he mentioned was listening for God’s voice. He mentioned in his own experiences, it could be as simple as putting the shopping cart back where it belongs when you are done shopping. Sometimes we get that little voice that tells us to do something. It’s usually something we don’t want to do, but we hear the voice, and we make the choice to obey or disobey.

I have learned that when I’m feeling led to do something that doesn’t fall under the category of what I would normally do, it’s more than likely the Holy Spirit telling me to do something. The hard part, and I think this is where most people get stuck, is making the conscious decision to obey what you are being told to do.

In the past, it was very easy for me to reason with this voice, and talk my way out of doing the things that I didn’t want to do. I believe that when we do this, we are really saying to God, “I created you, and you are going to be whatever I’m comfortable with right now.” I truly believe that so many people are making up their own rules when it comes to God. The majority of us are stuck on this level of comfort that we have been conditioned to feel by the world around us.

You want examples?

  1. “God doesn’t need money, so why should I be giving it away to the church?”
  2. “I’m not going to apologize to him/her after what they did to me!”
  3. “We’re all sinners, and nobodies perfect. So I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing.”

These are just a few examples, but have we not all said something like this to rationalize our way out of doing something that we are reluctant to do? How should we fight this? Well, we can start by saying, “Greater is He that is in me, than he who is in the world.” (From 1 John 4:3-5) We can also put our trust in God and believe that if we obey Him, we will receive His blessings. Sometimes, you have to come to the end of yourself. Come to the end of your selfish ways, and say, “Lord Jesus, I love you so much, and today I’m going to do this, because you told me to, and I want to please you in every way that I can.”

I find that the more I am able to obey God, the easier it gets. It builds your faith, and it brings you joy to know that you are serving God the way that pleases Him the most, and not yourself. Read also, Titus 2:11-13.

I could carry on all day and night, and as I write there are so many awesome scriptures that God is revealing to me. I should have some good things to talk about this week!

The main thing I’m trying to say here is that we did not create God, He created us. If we know that, then why is it so hard to do what He tells us to do? Can we atleast try? Or if trying is too hard right now, can we atleast pray for God to help us try?

This is exactly where i am right now in my walk with the Lord, I know he’s telling me to do something for him that will involve some sacrifice on my side - and here i am trying to come up with ways to get out if it!

I just wanted to say thanks for the article - and i will be praying ““Lord Jesus, I love you so much, and today I’m going to do this, because you told me to, and I want to please you in every way that I can.” today.

Isn’t it funny how our minds will try to back out of any uncomfortable situation? The bible is full of people that tried to “argue” with God. I think it’s hilarious when we do this! We sometimes forget who we are dealing with…don’t we?
