In order to surrender to God for Him to work in us (according to His will and purpose), we must first kill the flesh. In other words, we need to stop being consumed with the ways of the world, and we need to start walking in the spirit.
This quote actually relates to killing the flesh. It’s a process that takes time, and an incredible amount of discipline. It’s easy to know what is wrong and right, but we all have our weak moments. We must learn to deny ourselves things that are not of God, and not of His spirit. For me, the only way I have been able to succeed in doing this is by having a deep love for God. It’s not always easy to say no to my own “fleshy” desires, but the reward is always worth it.
One of the biggest challenges I have is speaking negativity over people and over myself. I’m quick to speak curses, when I should be speaking blessings. This is not the way things should be (James 3:10), and it’s definitely a sign of walking in the flesh. When we do start walking in the Spirit (denying the needs of the flesh, and trusting God), we will start to see the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
It’s important to keep seeking God, and asking Him for His support and guidance in these matters. He does provide the strength to overcome such tribulations, but we must also be obedient when He is providing that help.
As I read Galatians 5, I realize how relevant it is in today’s world. It was written almost 2000 years ago, and we are still dealing with the same issues! A part of that is kind of sad, and a part of it is so awesome that God gave us His word, and that it will stand strong forever and ever!
Next topic…I’d like to ask anyone reading this to please pray for my step brother who left for Iraq two days ago. While you’re at it, say a prayer for all the soldiers over there (if you haven’t already). Thank you!

Oh yes, there is a price to pay….and the price is saying no to our flesh. Its a daily death….I remember writing something long time back on this….Drop the corn
Be blessed!

I would probably help if we know how long is going take to kill the flesh. How long are we going to stave it? Can we really kill it or we’re just putting it to sleep that whenever we’re not watchful it’s going to awake and grab the food just lurking nearby.

Elyong - Good questions! We have to die to our flesh daily. As long as we are on earth we are always going to come against temptations. When you have an area of victory, the devil will be right there to steal it from you. The more victories you have, the stronger you will get, and the stronger you will need to be as you anger the devil more and more!
