Things That Will Keep You in Bondage
Justin on the Topic of Other

Recently, I received a question from a reader regarding homosexuality and the challenges of walking out of this lifestyle. If this is your first time here you should read, Coming Out Straight, my own testimony of being set free from homosexuality. This is a controversial topic these days, and many are afraid of bringing it up. However, I have been given a voice for this issue, and I will use it when necessary. It is imperative that people start to understand how dangerous this sin is.

If I stole something, I’d be sinning against God. I would also be breaking a moral law. The Bible is clear on this issue, and most people will agree that stealing is not a good thing to do. The Bible is also clear on homosexuality and the consequences for all those who participate in this sin. However, homosexuals have been successful of convincing more and more people that the way they live their lives is acceptable. Could you imagine if a kleptomaniac started telling people that they were born that way, and that makes it okay? Do you see the danger now? We are all born sinners, that doesn’t make it okay!

Now, I’ll get back on track here and show you the question that I received:

I have read a couple of other testimonies of people being delivered from this, but I should say none of them were as dramatic as yours. Most of them, or rather all of them said that they still struggle with homosexual desires; which required constant discipline. I do know God delivers, but do you think all can be delivered instantly like being delivered from demonization?

I have also read and heard of others who want to walk away from homosexuality, but I have found few who have actually been delivered! Here are a few reasons that might be holding them back from being set free:

  1. They don’t really want to be delivered, or their reasons are selfish reasons. Do they want to please the world or God? If they are wanting to please God they might have more success!
  2. They don’t understand what truly made them the way they are. For a homosexual, it takes a revelation from God to completely understand that no one is born gay. It is a tangled web of lies, pain, and confusion. It is also a trap, and the hunter (Satan) does not have any intention of letting the prey escape.
  3. Time. I think the longer the person has been in this lifestyle, the harder it will be to walk in freedom. I don’t think it is impossible, but it will be difficult.
  4. The level of their participation. Someone who made it their complete identity and surrounded themselves with every possible gay-related thing is going to have a harder time than someone who never really identified with gay people or the lifestyle. For instance, I never really got along with gay guys, so I was never active in the “gay community”. It wasn’t part of my identity, so the main thing I was fighting was same sex attractions.
  5. The person’s level of surrendering will also make a difference. I was delivered by God, but I also surrendered to Him. When I realized I was starting to have more thoughts about women, I could have easily said, “that’s weird” and continued with looking at guys in an unhealthy way. Instead, I acknowledged that something was different inside of me, and I realized that it was something God had done. After that, I walked in more freedom because I wanted every last piece of the “gay identity” out of me.
  6. Same sex attractions will never go away! Let me explain…most cases of homosexuality are a result of the man not having a proper role model, or maybe not one at all. That need then gets perverted, and turns into a sexual need. Now, every time the homosexual looks at a man, all he relates to that man is sex. This is where the lies originate! Instead of just looking at the man for ideas of how to walk, talk, dress, etc. the devil instead accuses the person of something much more perverted. For example, “you are never supposed to look at another man. If you do, you must be thinking sexual thoughts, and that makes you gay.” This is not the truth! I look at men all the time because I never had anyone show me how to be a man. I look to them for help! I notice what they do, so I can do it. This is why I say that same sex attractions will never go away, because the devil will never stop trying to make you feel like you are doing something wrong. We are all guilty of looking at people, but if he can make you think you are doing something wrong, then he has led you down the path to acting it out!

Keep in mind, this advice is from my experience only, and I wouldn’t say that it is the standard for all people stuck in a gay lifestyle. I can only speak from my testimony, but most will probably be able to relate to what I’m saying.

Can you think of something that you have struggled with, and determine if maybe you were unsuccessful for one of the above reasons?

I was privileged to read this earlier. Thank you, Justin for standing for the deliverance of the Lord.

I recently came across an ex-gay porn star by the name David Papaleo. He is now a Bible preacher. But as I read his testimony I heard such destructive lies justifying the conduct of homosexuality.

You can read about him in the Dallas Voice

How dare men tamper with the most holy Word of God to suit their theology!

Many may believe that becoming a Christian is like taking a pill for a headache. Once you become a Christian your “headaches” are gone. This is far from the truth. We still have a sinful nature that causes us to stumble. Your deliverance from homosexuality is the result of your willingness to allow Jesus Christ into your life and the Holy Spirit to not just indwell you but to fill you with the Truth. It is the Truth that opens your eyes to the lies of Satan and the Word of God empowers you to repent of the sins and to strive each day to abide in Christ. God sees no difference between gossip or homosexuality. They each represent sin. You are a great example to others of the life changing ability of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when we surrender to him. I pray that your website will be a tool of the Lord to reach out to the many men and women caught up in the lies that Satan has bound them in.

Sidharth, not sure how I feel about David. I’m glad that he is giving credit to God for walking away from a destructive lifestyle, but he seems to be confused about simple Biblical facts. He believes that all the verses relating to homosexuality are not actually saying that homosexuality is bad, but that it’s wrong to go against what is natural. Not what is natural in God’s eyes, but what is natural in our eyes. So if a person feels like they are gay they shouldn’t fight it. This is a dangerous and false interpretation of the Bible, and is just one example of how Christians are being deceived!

Eric, I agree completely. I appreciate you saying that I am a “great example of the life changing ability of our Lord”, and I believe that we should all be striving to be good examples in all aspects of our lives. Many have just accepted the fact that we are sinners and there is nothing we can do about it. We can never be perfect, but we should still give it our best shot!

Unlike many who get involved in a discussion on this topic, I truly have no hidden agenda. This is a real question.

I see lots of people set free from things just by sitting under the anointed preaching of the Word. I got set free of life controlling behavior as a result of my progressive sanctification. I wonder what would happen if the church would preach against homosexuals less and to them more.

What if we looked at this the same way we view adultery, violence, and robbery? We welcome all sinners believing that the presence of the Holy Ghost will convict the world of sin?
